Join the pioneering research team at the School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to our communication and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (e.g., LLMs, ML) and media and communication studies. Position Overview

The appointee will report directly to the Principal Investigator Prof Bu Zhong and collaborate closely with other team members on the project. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will play a crucial role in managing the overall project and coordinating the implementation of surveys, focus group interviews and experiments. You will also have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that combine computational methods with communication theories, contributing to the development of new frameworks and tools for measuring human communication patterns and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator in managing the overall project activities and grant writing;
  • Conduct literature review, data analysis and draft the findings for the project reports;
  • Work with communication scholars to develop metrics to measure and track social emotions and medical insights through analysing social media data and medical data;
  • Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at international conferences; and
  • Mentor graduate students and support the educational initiatives.

Requirements

Essential

  • Ph.D. in Communication/Psychology/Social Sciences/Public Health/Data Science/Computer Science or other related disciplines;
  • Excellent academic knowledge of research methods, statistics and analytical tools (e.g. SPSS, Stata, R, MPlus);
  • Experience in grant writing and project management; and
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in both written and spoken English.

Desirable

  • Publication record in reputable journals or conferences in communication and/or AI studies;
  • Experience in social media data analysis using AI techniques;
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, or PyTorch); and
  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, and LLM-based methods.

  • AI-Powered Sleep Formula Prediction: This project leverages big data from e-commerce platforms like Amazon to predict optimal sleep aid formulas based on user feedback and product components. Students involved will work on analyzing real-world data to develop AI-driven health solutions.
  • AI in Journalism and Media: Exploring the application of AI in improving the accuracy, transparency, and effectiveness of news reporting, alongside media production enhancements.
  • AI and Animation/Games: Collaborate with the AI Animation Lab and AI Games Lab to pioneer innovations in creative media using AI-driven technologies.
  • AI and Health Communication: Develop AI tools aimed at improving public health communication, personalized healthcare solutions, and well-being enhancement through targeted AI applications.
